The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has fined a radio station in Jos, Plateau State for “continuous airing of vulgar and indecent music”.
A letter addressed to Jodaj Global Communications limited, the owners of Jay FM confirmed the fine which was around ₦100,000.
NBC said the fine against the station was due to repeated violation of NBC Code section 14.
“The commission had cause to warn your station via a letter dated 6th March 2018 for airing a song by Falz “This Is Nigeria” and also on the 24th of July 2018 for airing Wande Coal’s “Iskaba”,” the statement reads.
“In view of the persistent contravention of the code and failure to remedy the breaches, the commission invokes the provision of the code, particularly section 14.1.4.1.a. a fine of 100,00 thousand naira only.”
The station has only 2 weeks to pay the fine before NBC mete out a stiffer sanction.
