Veteran singer, Konga, has revealed that he was the one who unearthed Wande Coal and offered him to the defunct Mo’hits group.
Konga revealed to Goldmyne on The Dark Room that he had wanted to retain Wande Coal as his own backup singer but he thought the then young singer would be better off with D’Banj and Don Jazzy, who were also scouting for a backup singer at the time.
He said when he introduced Wande Coal to Don Jazzy, he had been so impressed with Wande that he had asked the singer to call him (Don Jazzy) the next day.
He recalled that, “at that event I saw Wande Coal and he was hailing me [and telling me to give him a chance] and I’m like, okay, today is today, oya, come, let me see what I can do for you. Come, follow me.”
“So two things were in my mind, it’s either I take Wande Coal as my backup artist so that I can help him achieve his goals; another thing is, I can give him to D’Banj and Don Jazzy because they actually need a back up artist: I don’t really need a backup artist.” He explained.
“It’s better I keep Wande Coal to myself. But another thing talked to me like that would be too selfish of me. But Wande Coal would shine more if he’s with the D’Banj and the Mo’hits All Stars. So, I did what God asked me to do: Your shine is all ready on, let the boy shine.”
Konga said he was very happy to have been part of the reason Wande Coal was where he was today.
“I thank God Almighty for using me as an instrument towards Wande Coal’s success.”
However, the singer said he was dismayed that Don Jazzy and Wande Coal did not acknowledge the role he played after Wande Coal joined Mo’hits records.
He claimed that the former Mo’hits stars did not take his call neither did they appreciate his effort to put Wande Coal on.
Konga alleged that he had asked Wande Coal and Don Jazzy, but they both reacted coldly to his advances to feature them in one of his own records.
“That’s not the way life should be. I called Wande Coal that I want to feature you on a song.’ and he started acting up; it’s not fair. At least if you didn’t remember where we started from, you should remember where the whole thing started from.”
