According to many industry observers, there has been a noticeable drop in the rate at which Nigerian artists release albums since 2008. It is so much that most big name artists have shunned album releases in favour of releasing singles. However, Chocolate City signee, Koker, says these artists cannot be blamed for choosing the singles path.

The “Kolewerk” singer explained to HIPTV in a recent interview that he does not intend to follow that path.

Koker, who described the Nigerian music industry as a “singles industry”, said the reception for albums in the country is poor.

However, he said he is compelled to release an album because of the benefit it would have on his career.

“At this stage in my career, I feel like I have to drop an album so that people can digest my sound and understand my music direction: Singles can’t really do justice to that.”
