Nigerian women are angry with Falz the Bahd Guy and they have a valid reason to be so. The rapper has continued to take a swipe at young females in his music.
Not young females in the blanket sense, but those who sell sex. Falz reiterated his hatred for transactional sex during his album listening party yesterday.
He was responding to a query relating to his line on the single, “Talk”.
“Instead make you work, you dey find Alhaji, you come turn your body to cash and carry.” Falz had rapped in the song.
However, this triggered reactions from Nigerians women who believe Falz the Bahd Guy was slut-shaming women. The general argument is that sex is transactional, whether one got paid cash for it or not.
“Shamelessly I will continue to say it. I detest transactional sex,” Falz said in response to the query.
“It is my thing, that is what I believe in and you will continue to hear it in my music.
“The same feminist that will say the woman is free to do what she likes, that who am I to tell women not to put herself up for money is the same feminist that will say women are being objectified, now you are that same person that is going ahead to commodify yourself. You have turned yourself into a commodity.
Furthermore, Falz explained:
“Their argument often is that I speak about the runs girls and I don’t talk about the guys. If you are going to talk about a certain epidemic, obviously you are going to use the more popular scenario, the more relatable scenario and that is why I always use the runs girl.”
So, why is Falz so particular about condemning women who sell sex? Why is Falz so obsessed about what women do with their vagina?
“Falz says he hates transactional sex,” a Twitter user, @CHIZY_N noted in one tweet.
“But isn’t ‘Something Light’ about a girl that didn’t want to sleep with him even though he took her out and bought food for her? Isn’t that transactional?”
Falz has been rattling powerful factions with his music recently. This has earned him comparisons with Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who was a renowned dissident.
But in Falz’s case, there is the cancel thing hovering over his head. Will this year be that year?
