DJ Nana is very optimistic about female involvement in disc jockeying in Nigeria. She says in less than ten years there would be exponential growth in the number of females deejaying in the country.
The Kogi State born DJ expressed the feeling during an interview with HIPTV recently.
She said already the barrier for entry for females interested in disc jockeying was crashing as more females were joining the occupation.
“We’re going to take over the males. Because a lot of female DJs have risen in the past few years,” DJ Nana said.
“I have discovered over 20 female DJs between last year and this year. So, you can imagine how much more we’d have in the next two years; five years; in the next ten years.”
DJ Nana stated that by then the female DJs would be competing viably for spots with their male counterparts.
She likened it to the general crashing of gender barriers in most male-dominated occupations.
