The Hip Hop World Awards popularly known as ‘The Headies‘ and what we thought was the Nigerian music industry’s biggest night held yesterday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
The show started late which may have something to do with the low turn out of invited guests. Conspicuously missing were a number of A listers who were nominated and even won several categories.
Among them are Olamide, Patoranking, Young John, Illbliss, Clarence Peters and a host of others. The Mavins crew also didn’t show up for the event. There was definitely evidence of poor planning on the part of the organizers as could be seen with lapses in time it took to get people on stage, absent awardees not having representatives, sound and lighting which were misbehaving at some point.
Compared to last year’s the 2016 edition was relatively drama free and even had Harrysong and Kcee ‘settling’ their beef on stage after winning an award for their joint effort ‘Reggae Blues’.
The closest drama moment was when Wizkid pointed ignored Eva Alordiah‘s fiance who was leaning in for a hug and hugged Eva instead.
The highlight for most people were the throwback performances especially from Daddy Showkey who had the audience on their feet doing the galala. The Remedies trio, Idris Abdulkareem, Eddy Remedy and Tony Tetuila also took us back to the good times with their songs and lackluster performance.
