Burna Boy seems to be enjoying collateral success of some sort since the release of Kanye West’s new album, Ye. The Nigerian artist confirmed himself yesterday that his sales went up by 200% since Ye was released.
Burna Boy announced this in a short video on Twitter around noon yesterday.
As it is, Burna Boy’s single, “Ye” is sitting on the No.1 spot of the Nigeria iTunes chart.
“Thank you, Kanye! Respect!” Burna Boy said in the video.
Apparently, Americans and other Kanye West followers around the world are discovering Burna Boy’s album, Outside, which also has a song titled “Ye” in their search for West.
Recall that only a few weeks ago, there were repeated calls by millennials in Nigeria to make Burna Boy’s “Ye” the country’s official national anthem. Foreigners who are now listening to the song by chance have offered the song a great deal of legitimacy.
It is an exciting time not for Burna Boy, but for Nigerian music entirely. Why, because these foreigners who saw Oluwaburna’s “Ye” have repeatedly been talking about how “bomb” a track it is.
