Banky W Declares Political Ambition; Nigerians React

Singer, Banky W will contest in the 2019 general elections. The announcement is simply Banky taking real step beyond his mild activism.

Bankole Wellington announced the decision yesterday at the launch of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) in Lagos. The singer would be contesting for a house of representatives seat representing Eti Osa constituency, Lagos.

The singer’s political campaign tagline is “Hope ‘19”. It is influenced by the deeply successful “Hope ‘93” by the south west politician, Moshood Abiola.

“They said we don’t have the money to run,” Banky W wrote in his declaration note.

He said his platform’s chances were beyond just their financial power, but in the number of supporters.

“We say our strength lies in our numbers. They say we don’t have structure, we say we will attempt to build it. They said what if we lose? I say, what if we win?”

However, Banky W admitted that while the odds may be stacked against him and his party, they do have a lot of hope in the coming elections.

“My entire life has been a story of just dreaming dreams, praying about those dreams, setting goals and working until they come true. I can live with trying and failing. I cannot live with not trying.

“So, while we may not have a godfather, we do have God. And we have vision; intellectual capacity; integrity; right intentions. And last but not the least, a whole lot of hope.”

Not Out Of The Blue

Meanwhile, campaign posters for the singer is now making rounds on the web. Recall that in recent months, Banky W had spoken about why getting permanent voter’s card is no longer enough to force a change in the Nigerian political sphere.

Before now, Banky W had joined protests such as “Bring Back Our Girls”, “LightUp Nigeria”, “Occupy Naija” and others.
