Mavins First Lady, Tiwa Savage has been in the news a lot of late. She granted an interview to VIBE NEXT and it was quite a revealing one. We even discovered some things we didn’t know about her earlier. Some are:
- She’s a tomboy
As the youngest in a family of four and the only girl, she was quite the tomboy growing up. She also admitted to feeling more comfortable in Sneakers and track suits.
2. She used to play the trombone.
It was something she picked up to get the attention of a boy she liked in school. The then object of her desires was always hanging around the music cool kids in school and she wanted in on that.
3. Fantasia Barrino was the first artiste she wrote music for
We know she’s worked with a lot of A listers including Mary J Blige and even the late Whitney Houston but Fantasia was the first artiste she wrote music for.
She heard a song Tiwa wrote, liked it, took it and got her a publishing deal. The song is ‘Collard Greens and Cornbread’ and ended up on the Fantasia’s third studio album, ‘Back to Me‘.
4. She always knew she would become a professional singer
Unlike some of her counterparts who stumbled into music, it was something she knew she would always do. It informed her decision to study jazz and music business at the Berklee College Of Music.
