Dremo dropped his single ‘Ojere’ last week and already has a video to accompany the song. The video was shot in Lagos and some parts of the United Arab Emirates.
Before watching the video, I had no idea just how lanky the young rapper was. But when I saw him move ungainly like a tall track runner leaving the pack but at the same time remaining rooted to the same spot, I could tell immediately that he was Running Off On Da Plug
Running Off On Da Plug is a move birthed and popularized by rapper Plies. He did so when he immortalized the lyric “run off on the plug twice” in his song “Ritz Carlton”(2015) and demonstrated the move in the music video. That demonstration went viral.
A plug is generally defined by Urban Dictionary as someone from whom one would purchase drugs, Plies appears to be bragging about not paying for drugs from the same person twice. Plies then says that he won’t be accepting calls from the plug.
Dremo probably has his own reasons for adopting the move but he does his with a little twist, bringing the tip of his fingers together to form a pyramid as he makes a stationary run. The move hasn’t really caught on with Nigerians quite yet but if it does, I’m sure the DMW rapper will want to take the credit.
“Ojere” was directed by Director Q.
