The rising star, Skiibii isn’t surprised people are now seeing him as a force with a good grasp of the party arena and the mainstream. The former 5 Star Music ace now has 3 back to back hits, but it wasn’t always like this before.
A few years back, the singer had faked his death as a publicity stunt. His career has since been plagued by that incident as it has been difficult for him to move past it.
But as time has proven, it was better to be talked about as the guy who faked his death than not to be talked about at all.
However, 2018 started a turnaround for the singer with the release of the smash single, “Sensima”. He then moved forward to release “Omaema”, which was nearly as successful as the single it came after.
With the release of “Daz how star do” which featured Falz and Teni, the Entertainer, Skiibii transitioned to being known as the superstar without the yolk of his 2015 stunt surfacing at all.
“Glory be God, bro. You see this sound that I’m doing — asides ‘Daz How Star Do,’ it’s always been in me, but I never explored it. But you see ‘Sensima,’ ‘Omaema’ and ‘Gara,’ those are my kind of sounds that I love to do,” Skiibii said in an interview with Pulse Nigeria.
“But when I was on Five Star Music, those sounds were too cool… You see, My (former) record label (Five Star), they loved me, they wanted the best for me, but people can’t understand you like you understand yourself. They felt like I could do other sounds and explore and make people groove to me.
“So (I would say) the only thing that changed is that I focused on my sounds and I am dropping them (the songs). I am also not leaving too much time between the songs like I used to. I am also in charge of everything now, shooting my videos and doing anything I like. Gbedu is plenty. That’s the only thing I changed — I focused on the sound.”
Referring to his success, Skiibii is quick to point out that it didn’t happen by chance. In fact, he has a tattoo on his body recognising how long it could take to win.
“I always believed o, I swear. I have a tattoo that reads, ‘Winners, don’t quit.’ I have another that reads, ‘Skiibii, the definition of a true star.’ I have had both tattoos for a long time – even before I joined Five Star Music.”
