Sensational musician, Rema is not here to be compared with anyone. Despite many having said he sounds like some of the biggest names in the Nigeria pop scene.
The youngster suggests the comparisons were a slight on his authenticity. He reacted to those who compare him with other artists in his recent interview.
Since he was unveiled in March, Rema has received only warm reception from music fans across Nigeria.
He has even raked over a million reviews across platforms and presently stands at close to 60k streams on BoomPlay.
His almost fast-paced progress in the industry has caused many to liken him to Wizkid, Reekado Banks and some others.
Rema said flatly those artists were sounding like him instead.
“I don’t sound like anyone actually, they might sound like me but I don’t sound like anyone,” Rema stated.
His song “Dumebi”, off the REMA debut EP, is believed to have shown traces of Wizkid.
At other times, he sounded like an eclectic blend of Wizkid, Skiibii and Reeky, who was signed to Mavin Records until last year.
Rema’s sound is heavily influenced by Indian music, trap and UK Afrobeats.
The youngster is presently signed to Jonzing World, a Mavin Records imprint and is poised for stardom any moment from this year.
