Five Star Music stalwart, Kcee is getting set to release a new album he calls Eastern Conference. The album will be the singer’s fourth solo project. As part of the roll out process, the singer is granting interviews to media houses, breaking down the costs of making the project.
The former KC Presh member spoke with Punch recently and he told the newspaper how much he spends on making video alone. The singer said his videos sometimes costs millions of Naira.
He was reacting to the recent outburst by singer, Waje, who threatened to quit music because her investment was not yielding healthy returns.
Kcee noted that music making is a capital intensive process. Recalling 2013, when he released his most successful single ever, the Five Star artist said it was determination that got him far.
“That was what gave birth to the ‘Limpopo’ era,” Kcee told Punch in the interview.
The “Limpopo” singer went further to say the situation is not peculiar to Waje alone.
“It was determination; it was me being focused plus I had the grace of God. The message her is, what Waje said is not happening to her alone, but to a lot of artists. She was able to speak out. You need to listen to other people/ He situation might be better than a lot of them.
Music video costs a lot – Kcee
“The average video I shoot costs about 4m. I can travel anywhere to shoot my video. Don’t want to talk about the cost of hotel and other logistics. [I] have been able to promote some artists under my label and I know how much I invested in them. I know how much I shot their videos. That is why sometimes I look at the up and coming artists and tell them to appreciate their labels. It takes a lot.”
Meanwhile, the first single off Eastern Conference “Doh Doh Doh” is already out. However, the album is expected to be released tomorrow, April 5.
