I don’t know about you but whenever I see 3X’s together, side by side, the first thing that comes to my mind is that these X’s are in a straight line so I have to cross them out.

The second thing that comes to my mind is that an “XXX” probably has something to do with a porno or something sexually explicit.

If you listen to Lynxxx’ debut album This is Lynxxx, you’d notice he had no problems talking about that general subject matter in lewd detail. In fact, so much of his brand and image was built off of sex appeal. Nowadays, the Synik8 Record boss is going through a life and career change but the conspicuous stage name still remains. On his new song “Serve You” he talks about how he’s turned his life around for the better and all he wants to do now is to serve God.

2015 men, I found God, I was living on the edge, homie.

If that song is a sign of what’s to come, expect Mr. Itunu’s sound to move from the Jollof Music he created and practiced to gospel. However, before he makes the transition fully – rather than being sad and gloomy – let’s do like Lot’s wife and look back at 5 of Mr. Itunu’s most memorable songs when he was still in the world to remind ourselves of what made him so special. Don’t worry, we won’t turn into salt.

DJ Caise was putting together a funky house album at the time and he called on Lynxxx to make music that fit the format. Lynxxx was already buzzing at the time but he had a lot of critics for his style of music, International helped him silence a couple of them.

IntlOne of the loudest criticisms of Lynxxx was that his wealthy background had a bigger hand in his success than his actual talent. This song addressed those criticisms head on – he’s a man of his own and he takes the time to stress it. “Jeje” is Afrobeat-inspired and was a departure from Lynxxx jocular style of music.

IntlIt’s always been a bit of a headache trying to categorize Lynxxx’ style of music. He’s something of a chameleon, so when he’s in the midst of some of the most respected rappers in the country – he becomes a serious rapper too. Ikechuckwu actually delivers the most memorable lines on the song, in my opinion, but Lynxxx proves that he’s able to deliver a rap record that would earn the respect of hip hop heads.

“Change Your Parade” changed Lynxxx’ career and brought him so much commercial success, so it deserves to be respected. However, the simplicity of the song is the main reason why doubts over his musical ability began to creep up, doubts that still exist till this day.

On a lighter note, we guessed something had changed in Lynxxx’ life when his music became less raunchy, we sensed he was up to something when he took a break from the game and we gave him a strong side eye when he turned his Instagram page into a pulpit. However, we really knew something was up with Mr. Itunu when his glass looked a little less brown than everyone else’s at the DZRPT breakfast table.

Lynxxx’ first album This is Lynxxx came out in 2010. He was supposed to follow that album up with his second project Jollof Music but he changed his mind and started pushing Man Like Lynxxx: The Evolution instead. Not sure if he’ll change the title of his second album again but change is good. Mr. Itunu (rtd.) has changed his parade, only that God is the grand marshal this time around.
